When I'm not writing and teaching, or blogging on religion and society, or playing video games, or Dungeons & Dragons, the other thing I like is music. For years I've been struggling to get to an acceptable level of proficiency on the guitar, but my first and best instrument has always been drums. So, with that in mind, I thought I'd let my blogging public in on the news that I've just joined the Chicago indy-rock band The Bannermen, which is particularly exciting for me as I was already a fan of their music.
So I thought I'd celebrate the occasion by posting a couple of Bannermen tunes, and in keeping with the themes of this blog, I chose two with religious themes. Above is a tune called "I Am My Own God," which is as cool an anthem of protest atheism as I've ever heard. And below, also tying in my comic nerd interests, is "Thor."
(That, by the way, is not me on the drums, but the very fine Matt Wilhelm, who is moving on to other things).
