From the statement from World Vision announcing the reversal of their new policy accepting married gay and lesbian couples:
We are brokenhearted over the pain and confusion we have caused many of our friends, who saw this decision as a reversal of our strong commitment to Biblical authority.
Translation: We have decided to remedy this by causing pain and confusion to many of our friends, who saw this decision as a huge step forward in acceptance of all of God's children as members of the Christian community.
The problem with not being the kind of blogger that writes instantly on every little thing is that I hadn't even had an opportunity praise Word Vision before they let me down.
Let me just add something here that I said on Twitter. This whole "pro-tradional marraige" position is total garbage. In reality this decision is not "pro-marriage." It is pro-adultury, pro-fornication, and pro-deception, as it forces gay and lesbian employees of World Vision to remain in the closet, and prevents them from entering into precsisely the kinds of loving marital relationships that World Vision insists are part of its vision of a fulfilled Christian life.
At this point in my life, I'm used to being disappointed by Christian institutions. But they keep finding new ways to disappoint me.
