Apparently the snark machine is in a tizzy over Michele Obama "touching the person" of the Queen of England. As one who has a certain sympathy with the Puritan regicides of the British Protectorate, I've never understood why the Queen is given all this deference, but John Oliver clarified it all for me. It's not to protect the Queen from us commoners, it's to protect us from the Queen!
